The prepared environment appears to be of interest to her and she feels satisfied by it.

On Monday morning, after exchanging greetings, a young boy walked to his cubby, unbuttoned and removed his jacket and proceeded to hang it on the hook inside his cubby. He then walked into the classroom, walked over to a shelf and chose material to work with. The child became engaged with the work and repeated the exercise quite a few times. He then returned the work as he had found it back to its original position on the shelf. Now, this sounds very familiar, doesn’t it? However, there is something to be noted. This particular child had never before been able to unbutton his coat unassisted. Before this particular morning, he also had difficulty choosing work independently as well as completing a full cycle of work uninterrupted. This child tended to avoid work and conversed or played roughly with other children before being redirected by a teacher. This was truly rewarding to observe the normalization of this child and to see such growth of independence through freedom exercised within the environment.
